Man accused of leading police on chase from Richmond to Dinwiddie faces attempted capital murder charge

DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. — The man accused of leading police on a chase from Richmond to Dinwiddie is facing an attempted capital murder charge.

Virginia State Police said 47-year-old Steven W. Branch is also facing three other felonies, including eluding police, driving after being declared a habitual offender and possession of a controlled substance.

Branch was also charged with DUI and possession of marijuana.

He is accused of hitting two police cruisers on I-85 in Dinwiddie during a chase that started after two men were robbed near the Valero in the 6200 block of Midlothian Turnpike.

Branch  is being held at the Meherrin Regional Jail.
