Police cruiser jumps curb, crashes on Fan sidewalk

RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond Police are conducting an investigation after a police cruiser nearly wound up on a front porch in the Fan.

The crash happened after an officer spotted a car driving without headlights along the 1800 block of West Main Street around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, according to police. Investigators said the when the officer sped up to catch up with the driver, another car pulled out in front of the officer.

The police officer swerved to avoid hitting the driver. The police cruiser ended up in someone's yard. No one was hurt.

Witnesses said the police car accelerated without its lights or siren on. Police said they are investigating to see how fast the officer was going at the time of the accident.

Neither of the drivers in this incident were  pulled over nor cited.
