RICHMOND, Va. — Men, women and families in need will be able to find free clothes this weekend at Virginia’s first pop-up Street Store™.  The pop-up Street Store™ concept was introduced earlier this year in South Africa and has since spread around the globe.

Richmond’s pop-up Street Store™ will be held Saturday, December 6 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Help Somebody 1801 East Broad Street.

“We are pleased to be able to let needy men and women browse and pick and choose clothes, shoes and other things they like at our ‘clothing store’ on the street,” organizer Anita Kozakewicz said. “Many items will be on hangers at Help Somebody’s facility for everyone to see so they don’t have to rummage through bins and boxes. We believe this is very safe and respectful for these men and women who need so much.”

Local businesses, churches and organizations have severed as drop-off points for clothing donations.

“I enjoy giving back and I saw a story from Cape Town, South Africa, about two people called to serve after seeing so many in need in their city. They created The Street Store ™. I was touched by their story and thought it was a wonderful way for me to give the homeless and under resourced dignity as well as provide them with much-needed warm clothing,” local organizer Yvonne Royster said. “We appreciate the resources and support provided by the staff at Help Somebody to allow us to use their wonderful facility so can we host The Street Store™.”
