AMELIA COUNTY, Va. — An incident involving a school resource officer was reported Wednesday at the Amelia County Middle School, and is under investigation.

The conduct described, according to the sheriff’s office, included an angry outburst by the deputy and use of inappropriate language.

The incident evolved after a student threw a grape and struck the deputy in the back of the head, in the school cafeteria during lunch period.

The SRO has been removed from his duties at the school and a departmental investigation has been initiated.

A statement was posted by Ricky Walker, Sheriff of Amelia.

“I feel that the professional behavior of all deputies is important to our community relations,” Walker wrote. “All officers of the Amelia Sheriff’s Office should present themselves as positive role models to all citizens they serve.”
