MIDDLESEX COUNTY, Va. – Deputies are investigating what led to a deadly shooting and standoff involving two cousins in Middlesex County on Sunday.

It all started Sunday around 10 a.m. when deputies were called to the 1600 block of Montague Island Road for a shooting call.

That’s where deputies discovered 53-year-old Edward Markham Post’s body in the yard. Officials said the victim suffered “apparent gunshot wound to the chest.”

Witnesses reported that the suspect, 64-year-old Michael Edward Post, had gone back into the home before deputies arrived.

As a result, deputies and Virginia State Police secured the home until the state police Tactical Team arrived with their armored vehicles.

However, the tact team established communication with the suspect and Post was eventually taken into custody without incident.

Post, who is being held without bond, was charged with first-degree murder. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.
