RICHMOND, Va. — If you have friends and family planning to visit Richmond for the holidays and they ask you to take them on the Alton Brown food tour — prepare to eat — a lot. The Food Network star was in Richmond Wednesday to perform his stage show, Alton Brown Live, at the Carpenter Theatre. Before, during and after the show though, Brown visited some of Richmond’s favorite eateries to taste and tweet photos of the amazing local products.

During his eating adventure, Brown ate the pumpkin pie Proper Pie on East Broad Street in Church Hill and called it the best he ever had.

Brown, best known as the host of Food Network shows like Good Eats, Iron Chef America, Food Network Star and Cutthroat Kitchen, made not one, not two, but three stops for lunch in Richmond. Scroll down for a complete tour of Alton’s Richmond food tour.

His first stop was Sally Bell’s Kitchen at 708 West Grace Street.

Then he hit The Black Sheep at 901 W Marshall Street for one of the restaurant’s signature battleship sandwiches.

The third and final lunch stop was for chicken at Saison in Jackson Ward.

While in Richmond’s Church Hill, Brown praised the work being done at Sub Rosa bakery.

It appears he needed a pick-me-up during intermission of his Wednesday night show (which I am told was so much fun). I guess a box of Sugar Shack Donuts did the trick.

He capped off his dining adventure with a late-night snack provided by Pasture.

“By the time he got to us he was winding down,” a Pasture employee confided. “He sent someone in to get after the show food for him and his team. He had chopped salad with pickled onion, fried peanuts, radish and our pimento cheese ranch, black-eyed pea falafel with cucumber dressing and Salt and vinegar pork rinds.”

Sadly Alton Brown never responded to our invitation for lunch at the CBS 6 studio. I guess we need to step-up our dining game.
