RICHMOND, Va. — After less than a year in business, Dixie Donuts has decided to close its West Broad Street shop. In January, Dixie took over the West End location where Daylight Donuts once operated.

“We love having a location in the West End,” Dixie Donuts president Betsy Harrell Thomas said in a statement. “Yet for a number of reasons we concluded that concentrating on our original, fun, pink doughnut shop in Carytown is where our hearts really lie.”

Dixie’s West End location will close November 1. Expect expanded hours and seven-day-a-week service at the Carytown shop across from the Byrd Theatre.

The battle for donut dollars in the Henrico’s West End was expected to heat-up this winter with the opening of West End locations for local favorites Sugar Shack and Country Style Donuts, plus the opening of North Carolina-based Duck Donuts at Willow Lawn — across from Broad Street fixture Krispy Kreme.
