ORANGE COUNTY, Florida – A truck driver broke down in tears after thieves made off with his cargo at a truck stop.

Van Thomas told WFTV that he “was trying to live the American dream,” so he after serving his time as a trucker he recently bought his own semi and started a company of his own.

But instead of a toast to his noble pursuits, thieves made off with a reported 44,000 pounds of the Champagne of Beers. That is about 9,700 four-packs, according to WFTV.

The driver was traveling from Texas to Pompano Beach, and while he was at the last rest stop  – as fate would have it – before his delivery, his entire truck was stolen.

“I don’t mean to cry about it but I’m just trying to do the best I can and make a better life,” Thomas told WFTV. “It’s just so devastating to me.”

Apparently it’s not the first time a semi has been stolen. In a previous caper, about 180,000 eggs were stolen, according to WPXI, who also report that other bandits have made off with Hershey chocolate and Slimfast cargo.

Fortunately the truck was found in Miami, with most of the cargo on board, according to WPXI.

“Oh, my God. That’s beautiful,” he said.
