Richmond Police hope new app will help combat crime

RICHMOND, Va. -- Today the city of Richmond announced a partnership with Nextdoor, a private social network for neighborhoods who want to stay in contact with one another and police.

“This powerful tool is just another way the city will provide outreach to residents,” Mayor Dwight C. Jones said in an email.. “With the use of Nextdoor, we can send targeted safety messages and general updates to specific neighborhoods in an efficient, focused way.”

Nextdoor is free for residents and the city.

\Each neighborhood has its own private Nextdoor neighborhood website, accessible only to residents of that neighborhood.

Already 3,500 people across the Metro have signed up for the social networking site.
