Weekend Events: Forbidden City at VMFA, Richmond Oktoberfest, Walk to Stop Diabetes and more

Richmond: From the largest Art Museum in China and the largest palace in the world comes Forbidden City: Imperial Treasures from the Palace Museum, Beijing. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is the only museum in the country with the exclusive showing of the exhibition. Forbidden City opens Saturday, October 18th and runs through January 11th, 2015. The exhibit features about 200 exquisite objects that includes The Emperor’s throne, portraits of emperors and empresses, paintings and religious sculptures. Forbidden City takes us on a journey of the ancient palace during the Ming (1368 – 1644) and Qing (1644 – 1911) Dynasties. Featured objects reveal large portraits, costumes, fine decorative arts such as bronzes, lacquer ware and jade, exploring imperial family life, court painting, and religion. Tickets to see Forbidden City are $20, $16 for seniors 65 plus and adult groups of 10+  and $10 for students with ID and youth ages 7-17. Free for members and children 6 and under. FUTURE Events: LOBS & Lights Glow Tennis Events, 10th anniversary celebration to benefit VCU Lobs & Lessons, a nighttime glow-in-the-dark tennis experience, featuring a space-like atmosphere.
