DINWIDDIE, Va. -- Virginia State Police are investigating after a woman was killed while crossing train tracks in Dinwiddie County Tuesday night.

A call to police was made around 8:15 p.m., by the train operator.

State police said Rebecca J. Lundie, of Sutherland, died at the scene.  It was unclear why she was on the tracks, police said, though houses line both sides of the tracks.

Lundie was struck about a quarter mile down from Route 460 in Dinwiddie, where Hart Road crosses the tracks.

The train, operated by Norfolk Southern, was traveling westbound when the accident happened.

There were no witnesses, police said. It was very dark out at the time the victim was struck.

No one on the train was injured.

Both the railroad company and state police are investigating.
