BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. – There’s a break in a nearly 40-year old-cold case mystery that recently led investigators to the Virginia mountains.
Investigators named a new “person of interest” in the 1975 disappearance of two young Maryland sisters.
Bedford County investigators revealed Thursday afternoon that the new “person of interest” is Richard Allen Welsh Sr. He's the uncle of the Lloyd Welch, a Delaware man also considered a "person of interest" in the disappearances of Katherine and Sheila Lyon.
The two sisters vanished from a suburban Washington, DC shopping center in 1975.
The Bedford Sheriff's Office, state police and police in Maryland said they're working together on the search after recent developments led them to the Taylor Mountain area.
Deputies said Richard Allen Welsh owned property there at one point and even though they know where he is now, they would not divulge that information.
An investigative, multi-jurisdictional grand jury will start meeting Friday to review evidence collected so far in the case.
