HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — “Way to go Officer Bolland!”

That is what Henrico Police posted on Facebook along with a brief story on what Officer Joseph Bolland did on a recent call for service that earned the praise of the department.

During the service call, Officer Bolland met and bonded with two little boys who live in the home. While Bolland showed the children his police gear, he noticed the boys, ages six and seven, had no toys. Instead of toys, police said, the children folded socks into a ball and threw the sock ball to each other.

It was an image that apparently stayed with Officer Bolland, because a few days later he went out and bought toys for the children. Officer Bolland spent his own money and the Henrico Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #4 also donated to the cause.

“The boys were elated, and we think they will be longtime friends with Officer Bolland,” Henrico Police noted. “Many thanks to you and the Henrico Fraternal Order of Police for supporting our community.”
