NEW YORK — Wal-Mart is planning to ramp up its holiday hiring, but not at the same pace as other companies with big seasonal needs.

Wal-Mart said Thursday that it will add 60,000 seasonal workers. That’s a 10% hike compared to last year, but rival Kohl’s is hiring 34% more this year.

Kohl’s said Wednesday that it will hire at least 67,000 temporary workers.

Delivery companies, used by online merchants to get packages to customers, also have Wal-Mart’s hiring expectations beat.

UPS said earlier this week that it will nearly double its holiday workforce to as many as 95,000 jobs. And FedEx is adding 25% more workers than it did last year, expecting to hire about 50,000 in total.

Wal-Mart said that its current employees who are interested in working additional hours will be given priority for holiday jobs.
