HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Three water main breaks impacted three Henrico neighborhoods Friday.

One break resulted in water gushing through the Bay Cove neighborhood in Short Pump. The community sits near Lauderdale and Church Roads in Henrico's far West End.

The second break happened about two miles away along Cambridge Drive, near Gayton Road and John Rolfe Parkway.

And, the third break happened on Waltham Drive near its intersection with Alsatia Drive.

County work crews said roughly 200 people lost water for a brief period of time on Friday, but water service has been restored.

Celeste Reynolds was one of those people.

Her dinner party preparations hit a slight snag Friday afternoon when her water went out.

“I go from plan A to plan B,” Reynolds said.

This is the second water main break in her townhouse community off Cambridge Road in three months.

“I would really like to know what the heck is going on,” Reynolds said.

The first water main break happened in July.

Bentley Chan with the Henrico County Department of Public Utilities said the department thought the July break was just an isolated incident.

But, he said, now that there has been another break here, and additional breaks in the area Friday, the county is investigating if there is a bigger problem.

Chan said the department believes Friday’s triple break is a coincidence, but he admits it is very unusual to have three breaks in one day, in the same neighborhood, in summertime.

“You don't think they break in summer...they don't do that,” Reynolds said.

Chan said the county will analyze data to determine if there is an underlying problem after they finish repairing the Waltham water main break.

The cause of the breaks remain under investigation.
