CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Corey Bowden, 42, turned himself in to Chesterfield Police early Thursday morning after he admitted to shooting his wife in the head, Chesterfield Police Lt. Justin Miller said. The woman, 27,  was rushed to VCU Medical Center where she died, according to her mother.

Police identified the wife as Delesha C. Bowden.

Bowden is currently charged with Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony and Malicious Wounding. Those charged could be upgraded pending the outcome of the police investigation.

Officers responded to a home on Summerbrooke Drive, near Walmsley Boulevard and Hull Street Road, after the husband called his son and said "I can't believe I shot my wife," Miller said.

The shooting happened at about 12:30 a.m. Police forensic units remained on scene some six hours later, focusing mostly on an upstairs room with the light on.

Multiple neighbors said they never noticed any problems at the house.

A "For Sale" sign was posted a few days ago, according to neighbors.  Online property records indicate the home was purchased in 2008.

Bowden remains at the Chesterfield County Jail, without bond. He asked the judge if he could post bond to take his 16-year-old son to Maryland.  The judge denied the request.

This is a developing story.
