HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- The Henrico grand jury indicted a driver for his role in a June 19 crash that killed 23-year-old Melissa Haislip. Jimmy Lee Green Jr., of Selden Street, was indicted on Aggravated Involuntary Manslaughter and DWI charges.

Green was driving north on Old Osborne Turnpike when his car entered the southbound lane and struck two other cars, police said.

Haislip, who was driving a Chevrolet Camaro, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Longwood University and Varina High School graduate was returning home from her nursing job at St. Mary’s Hospital at the time of the crash.

During a jailhouse interview, Green admitted he drank alcohol before the crash, but said he was not drunk.

“I think I did drink one or two beers,” he said. “But that wouldn’t have gotten me to a point where I couldn’t drive.”

He said was enroute to pick up his fiancee, who is also a nurse. He said he was in a rush to get her and he looked down to find his cellphone just before the crash.

Green is due in court Friday morning so a trial date can be set.
