ASHLAND, Va. -- Ashland Police began an investigation into possible child abuse after receiving multiple tips from the public.

Now a 25-year-old is facing two felony charges, one for one abuse and one for neglect involving a three-year old boy.

Before the investigation, Ashland Police say they had few dealings with Joseph Jamal Lawson.

But then a few weeks ago "tips and complaints from members of the community that witnessed things that concerned them, brought it to our attention," says Ashland Police Officer Chip Watts.

The investigation included Child Protective Services and the Child Advocacy Center in Richmond.

Police learn Lawson lives in between hotels in Ashland, spending a few days at one before moving on to another.

On August 29, Lawson was arrested on two felony counts.

Tuesday Sept. 2, he was arraigned in Hanover County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Lawson is now being held without bond and his next court appearance is set for Sept. 30.

I personally know this man & he never abused his child! When the little boy would act up, he always placed him in timeout; never once was a hand raised to his child! This is just sad because he fell on hard times & tried his best for his son. So the best solution was to place his father in jail & rip the child from his father? No. Just sad, extremely sad.

I don’t know this young man but you cannot judge him by the way he look. I don’t know what happened but looks can be deceiving. No one would have thought that the guy in Georgia would have left his son in a hot car, but he did. Where is the child’s mother in all this?

Seems when Government and their Media deliberately twist, slant, divert, cover up, and refuse the facts of a public investigations, they cause more questions, more speculation and more public commotion.

I wish the reporter had found out what things were witnessed that brought this man and his child to the attention of CPS. This article basically says nothing of substance, so who knows what happened.
