Driver killed, woman trapped for hours after crash on 460

PETERSBURG, Va. -- All lanes have reopened on Route 460 after a fatal tractor trailer accident closed lanes early Saturday morning.

A SUV and tractor trailer were involved in an accident at about 4:30 a.m.,  according to Petersburg Police. The SUV became pinned under the tractor trailer.

The driver of the SUV died. The passenger of the SUV was trapped under the trailer until rescue units freed her around 7:15 a.m.

The two people in the tractor trailer were taken to an area hospital as a precaution.

Virginia State Police are now investigating the accident. The name of the deceased has not yet be released.

VDOT: All lanes and ramps remain closed. Drivers heading east on Rt. 460 can use Baxter Rd. to Courthouse Rd. to Prince George Dr. back to Rt. 460 east.

Drivers heading west on Rt. 460 can take Rives Rd. to I-95 north back to Rt. 460.

Expect delays.
