DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. — A Dinwiddie County man was charged with Driving Under The Influence after a fiery crash killed his wife.
“A 2005 Chevrolet pickup was traveling south on Route 627 (Courthouse Road), when it crossed over Route 460 west bound lanes and proceeded across the east bound lanes failing to yield right of way to a 1995 Chevrolet pickup traveling east on Route 460,” Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Vick about Monday’s crash. “The driver of the 2005 Chevrolet pickup, Eric T. Durham, 41, was transported to Southside Regional Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.”
Eric Durham was later charged with DUI.
Julie L. Durham, 40, was riding in Eric Durham’s Chevrolet. She was flown to VCU Medical Center where she died as a result of her injuries.
Family members who reached out via social media and Virginia State Police confirmed the Durhams were husband and wife.
The driver of the other vehicle, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Southside Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash, which was reported at about 6:20 p.m., closed a section of Courthouse Road, at Route 460 , for a couple of hours.
