BARTONVILLE, Ill. — An Illinois woman has died after running back into her burning home to try to grab her cellphone after originally escaping the flames Tuesday.

Crews were called to the fire after receiving calls that a person was trapped inside.

Police said an officer tried to rescue the woman, but had to retreat because of thick smoke.

When firefighters arrived, they were able to get her out. She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

An officer was also taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
