American Idol auditions and Elliott Yamin this week

RICHMOND, Va. — This week the American Idol Bus Tour comes to town, as does one its bright former stars, Elliott Yamin.

On Tuesday, auditions for American Idol will be held from approximately 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Virginia State Capital on Bank Street. Auditions take place one day only and are open to anyone ages 15-28.

Those who plan to audition must bring two forms of identification to show proof of age, along with a photograph (for example, a birth certificate and driver’s license or a birth certificate and a passport or a birth certificate and a school ID card).

Those under the age of 18 who plan on attending with a guardian other than their parent, must bring a completed and notarized Guardian and Medical Authorization for Minors.

After showing proper ID and submitting the necessary paperwork, you will be directed to the audition line, where you will wait your turn to audition.

You can not have a current recording contract, nor can you participate if you progressed in any previous season, to thelisted levels.

Senior supervising producer Patrick Lynn told the Richmond Time-Dispatch that the River City caught their eye when Yamin, who starred in the fifth season and made it to third runner-up, came home.

“There was such a great vibe on that day and such a great turnout,” Lynn said to the RTD.

The R&B singer/songwriter returns this week. Yamin will play a free concert at Pole Green Park in MechanicsvilleFriday, July 18. The event is a fundraiser, “Night for Niger,” put on by the EJ Wade Foundation.
