MIDDLESEX, Va. -- According to a preliminary report completed by the National Transportation Safety Board, there are no "initial" signs of any mechanical problems with the aircraft that went down on Sunday, killing two people on board.

One man was killed and a woman later died from injuries sustained when the plane crashed.

Sergeant M. Anaya with Virginia State Police identified the pilot as 58-year-old Stephen L. Myers, of Somerset Street in Christiansburg.

The female passenger was identified as 48-year-old Misty Dawn McIntyre of Newport in Giles County.

She was partially ejected from the aircraft. “We had some citizens come forward and untangle her from some seat belt material,” Mark Nugent Middlesex County Emergency Services said.

Gregory Carter said he knew something was wrong when he heard a rattling noise and then saw the aircraft jerk and circle in the sky around 4:30.

This is just a preliminary report. The NTSB will send off two components of the plane's engine for further review. The plane was reported as flying low and appearing to manage a landing.

It could take up to a year to complete the investigation.
