STOCKTON, Calif. – Two months ago babies Jameson and Jackson were born to a California couple. Soon doctors discovered both boys had medical issues that were undetected in sonograms.
Jameson was born with one eye. His brother Jackson, who also has a club foot, can’t see at all. Parents Summer Hollingsworth and Michael Lopez want to give their kids the best medical care possible, with weekly trips to the Bay Area to see specialists, but it’s beginning to take a financial toll.
“They see an endocrinologists, three different optomolgy specialists. We travel back and forth,” Hollingsworth said.
The condition is known as Anophthalmia, which doctors say occurs in three out of every 100,000 births.
“Jackson was born with an underdeveloped eye ball in his right eye (microthalmia) and no eyeball in his left eye (anophthalmia), he is completely blind and we are not sure if he will ever be able to see,” the family wrote on its GoFundMe page. “Jameson is also missing his left eyeball (anophthalmia), but has a perfect right eye.”
Both parents are currently unemployed, so they set up a GoFundMe page to help offset costs incurred traveling to the doctors. Hollingsworth and Lopez hope to raise $20,000. So far they have raised $6,000.
