DAVENPORT, Iowa – Zombie apocalypses are always a threat to modern society, at least that’s what the kids at Zombie Camp think.

It’s a week-long camp put on by the Eastern Iowa Community College (EICC), and it’s being held at the Midwest Center for Public Safety Training.

The kids learn potential life-saving skills, from various instructors, that could be used in any kind of disaster, including a zombie apocalypse.

“The bigger picture here is we’re trying to teach kids how to survive any kind of event, with the undertones of zombies,” said Brian Ritter, director of Nahant Marsh.

Camp leaders from EICC said they wanted to create an intellectual camp that taught kids science, technology engineering, and math, but also peak their interest.

“We were sitting around just talking as a group thinking, what would be interesting and I was amazed at how many people were into the zombie culture,” said Ellen Kabat-Lensch, Executive Director for Resource Development and Innovation.

“They’re going to be building shelters, learning about water purification, they’re going to be doing low tech and high tech navigational skills, they’re going to be renewing reusable energies,” Kabat-Lensch said. ” I mean it’s going to be amazing the things that we can tie into that.”

The Zombie Camp costs $160 for the entire week with lunches and snacks provided.
