GLEN ALLEN, Va. – Republican congressional candidate Dave Brat held his first press conference since his historic win over House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in this month’s Republican primary. Brat announced he had hired Amanda Chase to be his campaign manager. Chase once worked as Eric Cantor’s political director.

“Many of you may remember Amanda as Eric Cantor’s former political director during the campaign of 2010,” Brat said. “Months ago when I was the underdog, she stated publicly that I was a credible candidate and contender in this race.”

Chase has also worked for other Virginia Republican candidates and politicians, Brat said.

He said “contrary to media reports” he had been on vacation during the week since his surprise win over the second most powerful Republican in Congress. He said he and his team had been busy organizing the campaign staff and responding to email and phone calls he’d received since the win.

He also said his children thought it was “pretty cool” that CNN had been parked outside their Glen Allen home.

Brat reiterated his six core Republican principles before he ended his press conference without taking questions from the assembled media.

Brat will face Democrat Jack Trammell and Libertarian James Carr in the November election.
