MIDLOTHIAN, Va. -  'Hitting the ground running' is how Dave Brat described his first official day on the campaign trail for Congress. Brat beat incumbent Rep. Eric Cantor for the Republican nomination in the 7th District just one a week ago.

Brat spoke to a Rotary Club in Midlothian Tuesday morning.  It was Brat's first public appearance since he soundly defeated U.S. House Majority Leader and long-time incumbent Congressman Eric Cantor last Tuesday in the Republican Primary for the 7th District.

"We've got a message of economic prosperity that we are going to share with Central Virginians across the district over the coming weeks," Brat said during the campaign stop. "This morning, I'm just glad to be here at this Rotary breakfast to listen to the people of my district."

Dave Brat will face  Democrat candidate Jack Trammell, a fellow Randolph-Macon College professor,  and Libertarian candidate James Carr in the November election.
