Dinwiddie sheriff’s deputy injured during traffic stop

DINWIDDIE, Va. -- A Dinwiddie sheriff's deputy is recovering from an injury after a traffic stop on Interstate 85 Saturday evening.

According to the Dinwiddie County Sheriff Office, a deputy pulled over 48-year-old William H. Joyner Jr. 48, of the 18000 block of Kilmer Lane in Triangle, for a traffic infraction around 6:15 p.m.

After being issued a summons, Joyner abruptly pulled off and ran over the deputy’s foot.

Joyner was later arrested and charged with assault on a law enforcement office, reckless driving and resisting arrest.

The deputy was taken to Southside Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released.

Joyner is being held without bond at the Meherrin River Regional Jail and is slated to be arraigned in Dinwiddie County General District Court.
