Mother of 3-year-old accidentally shot is wanted by Hopewell Police

hopewell wanted posterHOPEWELL,  Va.– A three-year-old child accidentally shot his twin brother using a gun left unattended in their home, according to Hopewell Police Chief John Koehane. The shooting happened in the 100 block of S. 8th Avenue in the Thomas Rolfe Court community.

The child has since been taken to VCU Medical Center for treatment.  The young boy is now listed in stable condition at VCU Medical Center, after a .25 caliber bullet went through his bottom  and into his abdomen. His condition is steadily improving.

The other little boy was taken from the scene by an adult before police arrived. During the course of the investigation, the firearm was recovered.

As a result of the investigation, charges have been filed against the mother and the mother’s live-in boyfriend. Both subjects are currently wanted at this time.

Reashonda Sharelle Jones, age 28 of Hopewell has been charged with two counts of felony Child
Neglect, Filing a False Police Report, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Lewis Walter Jones, age 29 of Hopewell, has been charged with two counts of felony Child Neglect,
Obstruction of Justice, and Evidence Tampering.

Drug and additional firearms charges are pending on both offenders. Online court records indicate that both had prior charges for which they pleaded guilty.

The mother pleaded guilty to an embezzlement charge in 2009. Her boyfriend pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute marijuana and an assault and battery charge in 2011.
