Teenager arrested for South Richmond homicide

Richmond murder 1RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Police detectives have arrested a 17-year-old male and charged him with murder in connection to a homicide that occurred earlier this week.

At approximately 6:25 p.m. Monday, officers received a call for a person shot in the 4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike. Officers arrived on scene within one minute and found Develle L. Thomas, 21, of the 700 block of East 18th Street, suffering from gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.

After following up on several leads and tips from the community, the juvenile suspect was identified. He surrendered to police today.

Court records show Thomas was a frequent unwelcome visitor in Midlothian Village Apartments.  Thomas has multiple charges against him for trespassing at the apartment complex. He also had assault charges, drug-related charges and failure to appear.

Detectives still ask anyone with any information about this crime to please call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000 or text Crime Stoppers at 274637, using the key word “ITip” followed by your tip. Both methods are anonymous.
