RICHMOND, Va. – The rest of the country is starting to learn what many Richmonders already know — RVA makes some great doughnuts.

While there are lots of places around town that churn out tasty doughnuts each day, one Richmond shop was placed on USA Today’s top 10 list of tastiest doughnut shops in the USA.

“The lovingly designed and run Sugar Shack, opened in June 2013, has won so many fans that they opened a second location in the heart of Downtown Richmond in March 2014,” USA Today posted on its website. “On a given day, the whimsical menu may have some or all of the following: Maple Bacon, Gingerbread, Apple Fritter, Espresso Glazed, Cookie Crumble, Babe Ruth Style, and more.”

  • Country Style 96% UrbanSpoon, 4.7 google rating (both higher than Sugar Shack)

Country Style hands down a better DOUGHNUT ! Located in East End – 4300 Williamsburg Rd is the only Doughnuts for this family. We load up the SUV with 3 boxers, stop into Country Style & say hello to the owners their always there with a smile to greet you, grab 2 old fashions, a toasted coconut, a maple and 6 plain donut holes for Pickles, Phoenix and Miss Coco. Then with our fresh coffee and amazing doughnuts (often still warm) drive a couple of minutes up the road to Dorey Park to walk the pups and to walk off those tasty tasty treats. They’ve been there 25 plus years and family owned, I love the small business owners and support them over a chain every time I get the chance. We live on the West End and it’s worth the trip and we bring back a dozen for the neighbors children as well. Not a paid spokesperson ( lol ) just a truly happy and satisfied customer.

Country Style beats them all. I first learned about Country Style from my dad who used to work for the railroad. During times that Fulton Yard had a delay coming out of the yard, he would jump off the train and run over there to get some of their doughnuts. They were iconic then, and they are iconic now. Sugar shack I am sure is good but can’t beat Country Style…
