COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. -- A local community is rallying around a woman involved in the fight of her life, hundreds of miles away.

About 80 people attended a "Barbells for Boobs" event at the Crossfit in Colonial Heights. It was organized by Rachel and Derek Ike.

Rachel's mother Barbara Sendlak lives in Buffalo, and is battling stage four breast and bone cancer.

She recently lost her job, and has no insurance, because her insurance dropped her, Rachel said.

“She hasn't been able to receive treatments since February, because she can’t afford it.  She was going every three weeks and now she can’t even go.

The Ikes thought this innovative fundraiser would be the best way to not only raise money for Barbara, but to help raise awareness for breast cancer.
