Homicide investigation underway after body found in parked SUV

RICHMOND, Va. -- Police have released the name of a 23-year-old man found apparently shot to death in an SUV in Richmond's Gilpin Court neighborhood Saturday night.

Officials said Lyle P. McMurtray, of the 100 block of Easy Street in Dutton, Virginia, was discovered around 9 p.m. Saturday in a parked SUV in the 100 block of East Hill Street in Richmond.

"When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive male inside a white SUV parked on the block," Richmond Police wrote in an email. "The victim, an adult white male in his early 20s, had suffered what appeared to be a gunshot wound and was dead at the scene."

Police are investigating this as a homicide.

    I’ve driven through Gilpin court are before. Not because I had business there but I took a wrong turn. Didn’t know I needed to be afraid to drive through.
