RICHMOND, Va. - Police investigated a bomb threat made to Boushall Middle School in Richmond.

The school was evacuated as a precaution.

The threat was about at 1:18 p.m., police and school officials confirmed.

Students are now home for the day. The principal announced a code blue alert over the intercom.

They were then rushed outside and away from the building as a safety precaution where they stood along Hopkins Road for more than an hour.

After Richmond police and a Henrico K-9 unit swept the building and gave the all clear, students were released for the day.

Police have not yet said if anything suspicious was discovered.

Some parents who came to the school to pick up their children were stunned to see such heavy police presence. Sam Quarles immediately started to worry about his grandson Troy and his granddaughter.

“It’s a scary situation and you don’t know what’s going on, especially if nobody warned you about what’s going on,” Quarles said.

He finally learned about what happened and said that he hoped he would have heard the information sooner from school leaders.

A school system spokesperson says the principal planned to send out an alert to parents Tuesday evening updating them on what happened earlier in the day.

Anyone with information about who may have called this bomb threat in to Boushall Middle, is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.

Boushall is located at 3400 Hopkins Road in South Richmond.

This is a developing story.
