Alexis Murphy’s family accepts diploma in her honor

Posted

NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- Alexis Murphy would have walked across the stage at Nelson County High School's graduation ceremony with 140 of her classmates.

The school principal and superintendent presented the diploma to Alexis' family, who stood in her place Saturday afternoon to receive her diploma.

Other graduates showed their support by wearing pink ribbons, Murphy's favorite color, and decorating their caps in her honor.

On May 8, a jury found Randy Taylor guilty of first-degree murder and abduction for Alexis Murphy's death. Jurors have recommended two life sentences for Taylor.

A judge will decide on sentencing this summer.
