TRENTON, IL (WTVR) – “Never leave them behind.”
That is the message one 13-year-old girl shared after she carried her injured twin sister over the finish line during a middle school track meet at the Southern Illinois State over the weekend.
The 13-year-old twins were running an 800 meter race when Chloe felt something in her leg pull.
“A pop in my thigh and then around the second lap it hurt and I couldn’t go anymore and I fell to the ground,” Chloe Gruenke recalled.
When she saw her sister drop, Claire Gruenke picked her up, put her on her back so the sisters could finish the race together.
“It was pretty neat everyone in the crowd was standing up giving a standing ovation,” their proud father Doug told Fox2now.com.
