CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Chesterfield Police identified a 16-year-old student believed to be responsible for a fire inside a Matoaca High School boys’ bathroom.

“Charges are pending at this time,” Chesterfield Police spokeswoman Liz Caroon said about the incident.

Students at Matoaca High School were evacuated from the building about 12:25 p.m. due to the fire. Chesterfield Fire and EMS spokesman Lt. Jason Elmore said the small fire started in a bathroom trash can.

No injuries were reported.

Monday marked the beginning of Standards of Learning (SOL) testing in Virginia.

“SOL testing was briefly disrupted and only one student was not able to complete their test.  The student who did not complete their test will take the test again,” Chesterfield County Schools spokesman Shawn Smith said. “Forty students were taking the AP Physics exam and they will have to retake the test on May 23.”

Matoaca High School is located at 17700 Longhouse Lane in Chesterfield.
