Fourth arrest made in Broad Street murder

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - A fourth person was arrested in connection to Monday's murder at an East Broad Street jewelry store in downtown Richmond.

Paul Townes, Jr., 24, of Chicago Avenue, was arrested Wednesday night without incident, according to Richmond Police. He is charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

Earlier Wednesday, police announced the arrest of three suspects connected to the crime. They were caught in North Carolina.

Detectives said that about 28 hours after Monday's Broad Street murder, 49-year-old Jesse G. Edmond, of the 1400 block of Enfield Avenue, 26-year-old Anthony J. Lenard, of the 00 block of East Clay Street and 28-year-old Jermeaka M. Gorham, of the 4000 block of McKay Avenue, were apprehended during a traffic stop by Roanoke Rapids Police.

The trio was charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

Police said an incident in Henrico County earlier the same day of the shooting helped them come up with a description of the suspects’ vehicle. Sources told CBS 6 that incident happened at the C & F Bank in Henrico.

The group is accused of killing Victoria Jewelers clerk Muhammad “Sunny” Baig. 

Baig, 29, was shot and killed Monday afternoon inside the store where he worked.

Baig's wife gave birth to the couple's baby one day after the murder. She named the child Shifa, which means “healer.”
