RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - The 16-year-old Richmond teen accused of murdering eight-year-old Marty Cobb was ordered to remain in custody following his arraignment Monday.

The judge hearing the case closed the courtroom in an effort to protect the identity of the teenage suspect. Only the suspect, his family and lawyers for both sides were allowed in the courtroom for Monday's arraignment. Judge Ashley Turner scheduled a second hearing on May 20.

Cobb was killed Thursday evening while playing with his sister on railroad tracks near their South Richmond home. Cobb's family members said the child was killed while defending his sister from the teenage suspect's attack.

Richmond Police identified the teen suspect shortly after Cobb's death. He was given a mental evaluation and later arrested for the crime. The teenager is charged with murder and strangulation.

The community turned out Saturday night at a vigil honoring Cobb.

A memorial fund was set-up to assist the Cobb family. Donations to the Keys For Marty Foundation can be made at any Well Fargo Bank.
