RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -Many people felt the aftermath of Wednesday's storm throughout Central Virginia.

In Mechanicsville, water was so high, those living near Drawbridge Rd. brought their canoe out in front of their neighbor's yard.

"We were just having fun, taking advantage of the high waters and said we'll go paddling on in the canoe" said Scott Strobel

Henrico County also saw damage's from the afternoon storm.
DJ Thompson said she was sitting outside on her porch around 4 p.m. when she spotted lightening across the way on Dumbarton Road.

"It was just like fire and it hit the tree and made a really loud noise, and then the tree fell on the power lines," said Thompson.

The tree that hit the power lines left thousands without power in that area, including Thompson.

In Richmond, Carl Ragland said his car was struck by lightening during the storm.

Ragland said his car was parked in his work parking lot, next to several other cars. He said his was the only one hit.

"Usually with lightening you think of striking trees and buildings, but it's the first I've heard of it hitting a car like this," said Ragland.

Ragland said there was no physical damage, but he wasn't able to start his car when trying to leave work for the day.

"Pretty much every is just electrical, but you can still smell the scorching smell in it," he said.
