Camera catches burglar watching sleeping child

HARRIS COUNTY, TEX. (WTVR) -- Chilling surveillance video shows a burglar walking through a home and creeping into an toddler's room as the child's parents slept nearby.

The crime happened in Harris County on April 5 just after 5 a.m. as the family of three slept. The intruder sneaked around the home and then hovered over the child's crib.

“I was infuriated when I saw him walking back and forth in my baby's room,” burglary victim Thinh Le told KTRK.

The intruder shined a flashlight throughout the room and even on the sleeping child, as the edited video provided by the Harris County Sheriff's Office shows.

However, Le said the video also showed the intruder and child make eye contact before the little boy went back to sleep.

The family has cameras mounted throughout their house. Le said it is clear that the burglar knew the cameras were there, but didn't care.

“He looked up and at some of the cameras and saw and made some statement that I'm here and I don't care,” he said. “He's really gutsy.”

The family did not realize their home had been broken into until a neighbor found their laptop and briefcase and returned it. That’s when Le reviewed the surveillance video and discovered the creepy images.

Investigators think the intruder is a teenager who got in through an unlocked first-floor window. While he only stole $60, the experience is a wakeup call for the family.

“As soon as I know we got broken into, I went upstairs right away checked on him and kissed him so hard,” Le said.

Other homes were burglarized in the same neighborhood around the same time and authorities are asking anyone who recognizes the person in the video to contact them.
