Easter Weekend Events: Family Easter Events, Bonnet Contests & Chili Cook-Off

 RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR): Dominion Family Easter at Maymont is one of Richmond’s favorite Easter traditions, filled with egg hunts, magic shows, carriage rides, ziplines, storytelling under the bunny tree and lots of other fun-filled activities. There are four egg hunts on the Carriage House Lawn and tickets can be purchased at the Carriage House Tent, $2 each, activities require 1- 4 tickets, an ATM machine will be available on site. Another popular Easter tradition is “Easter on Parade”, there is traditional parade but instead attendees parading up and down Monument Avenue. a stroll in the streets which are closed to traffic between Davis and Allen Avenues. The highlight of the festival is always the popular Pet Bonnet and People Bonnet Showcases, at 3pm and 4pm on the Zayde R. Dotts Main Stage at Allen. But there’s live music, arts, crafts, children’s activities, a petting zoo and people and pet watching. Easter on parade is Sunday from 1 -5pm and is free. And grab your cameras to snap a picture with Peter Rabbit, “Easter Weekend with Peter Rabbit” at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is Saturday and Sunday, April 19 & 20 from 1 – 4pm. Come Saturday to hear the Richmond Concert Band perform “Where Have I heard That Before?” concert in front of the Bloemendaal House from 2 – 4pm. There will be activities in the children’s garden, and Easter Brunch in the Tea House but reservations are required. Easter Eggstravaganza at kings Dominion, Thursday, April 18 – 20, Kings Dominion celebrates Easter with their annual Easter Eggstravagabza, a celebration with EGGsploration scavenger hunt, photo opportunities with the Easter Bunny, a petting zoo, Easter crafts, and other activities. “Threshold” is a New Play inspired by the classic Nigerian novel “Palm Wine Drinkard” by Nigerian Author Amos Tutuola (was written in 1946, first published in 1952), opens Thursday, April 17th at the Modlin Center, University of Richmond. The story directed by Chuck Mike, an award-winning, internationally acclaimed theatre director, producer and social activist and Assistant Professor at The University of Richmond is about a privileged young village lay-about who spends his days drinking palm wine with his friends, when his palm wine maker dies, he goes on a journey, encountering terrifying, fantastical and transforming experiences along the way. The Palm Wine Drinkard gradually learns to take responsibility for himself, his family and community. “Threshold” plays Thursday, April 17 – Saturday, April 19th at 7:30pm and Sunday April 20th at 2pm in the Alice Jepson Theatre.
