PRINCE GEORGE, Va. (WTVR) – A brush fire caused traffic backups along I-295 in Prince George County as firefighters worked to douse the flames Friday afternoon.

VDOT reported drivers on I-295 south at mile marker 8 could run into delays because the right lane and shoulder were closed as crews worked the fire.

The fire broke out in a wooded area behind the Jefferson Pointe Apartments between Jefferson Pointe Lane and I-295 near Bailey Creek.

The fire was marked under control around 5 p.m. and there were no reports of injuries.

CBS 6 senior reporter Wayne Covil said all Prince George fire companies were dispatched and that Hopewell and Ft. Lee were also called in to help.

CBS 6 Storm Team Meteorologist Mike Stone said Friday’s weather created “the perfect storm” for fire conditions. As a result, there’s an elevated fire danger across the entire CBS 6 viewing area.
