Flying Squirrels Home Opener Thursday — Chin Music to Richmond Ears

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) –The home opener for the Richmond Flying Squirrels is Thursday, April 10th. 

The fifth season kicks off with a Flying Circus. The evening includes stilt walkers, jugglers, unicyclists, acrobats, fire demonstrations and post-game fireworks. Center Stage Band will be entertaining fans in the HCA Family Entertainment Zone before the game.

The gates open at 4:30 p.m. and 6:35 p.m. will mark the first pitch of a seven-day homestand. The Flying Squirrels take on Altoona for a four-day stretch and then Reading for three days.

Friday, April 11th vs. Altoona Gates Open: 6:00 PM           First Pitch: 7:05 PM

The first Reading Night of 2014 will include Go Nuts for Reading participants joining Nutzy on the field for a pre-game parade around The Diamond. Also, the first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive a 5th Season Fleece Blanket Giveaway presented by Coke Zero. Every Friday is Ladies Night where ladies can win prizes throughout the night. The Squirrels, partnering with FeedMore and VCU Medical Center, will be hosting a canned food drive, with a raffle ticket for every person who donates – prizes include gift cards to Southern Railway Tap House, VCU Gear, an autographed baseball, and more. Kids will run the bases presented by McDonald’s and Richmond Family Magazine!

Saturday, April 12th vs. Altoona Gates Open: 4:30 PM           First Pitch: 6:05 PM

The Saturday Night Fireworks Extravaganza series begins with a bang! Too Big to Fail Night, presented by Wawa as part of their 50th Anniversary Celebration, includes a unique giveaway tribute to the Titanic: each fan will take home a piece of the iceberg. The Backwoods Whiskey Band will be on hand for a pre-game concert in the HCA Family Entertainment Zone. Kids will run the bases presented by McDonald’s and Richmond Family Magazine!

Sunday, April 13th vs. Altoona Gates Open: 12:30 PM         First Pitch: 1:35 PM

It’s the first Kroger Squirrels Tails Kids Club Sunday! Members can receive a free general admission ticket and ice cream item on Sundays, all season long! There will be a special Kids Club Happy Hour from 12:30-1:30 PM, with half-price games in the Kids Zone. Fans will get the chance to play catch on the field from 12:45-1:05 PM courtesy Nesquik. Additionally, the first 1,500 kids ages 14 and under will receive a Kids Club Neon T-shirt. Kids will run the bases presented by McDonald’s and Richmond Family Magazine!

Monday, April 14th vs. Reading Gates Open: 5:30 PM           First Pitch: 6:35 PM

The first Cinebistro Movie Monday features a Tribute to The Wizard of Oz with special $1 Munchkin Night concessions items. It’s also a McDonald’s Monday, with a buy-one-get-one free ticket offer for every fan who brings a valid McDonald’s receipt to the box office. PJ Bottoms will be performing in the HCA Family Entertainment Zone.

Tuesday, April 15th vs. Reading Gates Open: 5:30 PM           First Pitch: 6:35 PM

It’s Jackie Robinson Day at the Diamond, with a special “42” Wristband Giveaway presented to the first 2,000 fans through the gates, courtesy of Tum-E Yummies. Silver Squirrels members enjoy the first of their 10-game mini-plan with a special concessions gift. The Third Degree Band will be on stage before the game.

Wednesday, April 16th vs. Reading Gates Open: 11:00 AM         First Pitch: 12:05 PM

The first homestand of 2014 concludes with RVA Day at The Diamond and the season’s first Wednesday Happy Hour, with drink specials beginning at 11:05 a.m. Local businesses and organizations will be present distributing exclusive information for Squirrels fans, who will be treated to the sounds of The Bop Cats.
