Adults arrested after 10-year-old boy shot dead

ORANGE COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - Orange County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating the shooting death of a 10-year-old boy. Investigators said the boy died from an apparent gunshot wound Sunday night at a home in the 16000 block of Matthews Mill Road.

Two adults were charged in connection with the shooting.

Billy Joe Lee, 37, was charged with felony child abuse and neglect, shooting in the commission of a felony, discharge a firearm within the dwelling house with death of an individual and child endangerment.

Additionally, Tina Marie Toombs, 36, was charged with one count of felony child abuse and neglect.

Investigators have not released information about the relationship between the adults and the young victim.

"At this time no further details are to be released," the Orange County Sheriff's Office released in a statement. "The investigation is ongoing."

The child attended Lightfoot Elementary School, according to a report on Newsplex.com. Grief counselors are at the school to help students cope with the loss of their classmate.
