RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - John Scott has grown up visiting Broad Rock Park in Richmond for years.

"It's an awesome atmosphere, as you can see here with the kids playing on the playground," Scott said.

However, Scott said he now has concerns about the environment after visiting Thursday. He snapped several photos of the park's condition and brought it to CBS 6.

"When I pulled in I saw a ton of trash," said Scott. "I mean trash that isn't supposed to be in the park, alcohol bottles, cigar wrappers."

At the park CBS 6 saw a sign that states alcohol and glass are not allowed. CBS 6's Chelsea Rarrick also started making phone calls to the city's Department of Parks and Recreation about John's concerns.

A spokeswoman said the trash in the photos from Thursday has been cleaned up and someone does come to clean the park daily.

"It seems like as soon as someone speaks up and says something about it, it gets clean, it stays clean for a week and then it goes right back to being trashed," said Scott.

Scott said he believes part of the problem with the trash happens when night hits. He said he reached out to Councilwoman Michelle Mosby about his concerns, but has not yet heard back as of Friday.

"I feel like no one in this community or even in this district has taken the time to stand up and make this an issue," he said.

CBS 6's Chelsea Rarrick also reached out to Mosby for comment. As of Friday evening our phone calls had not been returned.
