CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) — A Carroll County Virginia warehouse was closed again Wednesday after more than 50 workers got sick on the job Tuesday.

WDBJ reports 52 employees at Virginia Produce in southwest Virginia were taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after getting violently ill.

The owner said he believes the problem began in the packing area of the warehouse, but he isn’t sure exactly what caused people to get sick.

One worker described what happened.

“Well, we were working and it was around 9 a.m.,” the worker said. “We started feeling bad. We had headaches [and] we were nauseous… We told the boss and he gave us some pills for our headaches.”

Leaders said air quality tests at the warehouse turned out clean.

Federal investigators are looking into what made the workers sick.
