Virginia State Police were on-scene for hours of an overturned tractor-trailer on the on-ramp from Midlothian Turnpike to Powhite Parkway northbound in Chesterfield County.

Shortly after 5:00 p.m. this evening, state police responded to the scene after the driver of a 2006 Kenworth tractor-trailer lost control and ran off the left side of the roadway, according to police. The tractor-trailer overturned onto the driver’s side.

The driver, who was wearing his safety belt, suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Chippenham Medical Center.

The trailer was loaded with approximately 40,000 pounds of bottled water.  Clean-up crews remained on-scene offloading the bottled water before they can upright the tractor-trailer.

The ramps finally opened after midnight.

The driver, Homero I. Perez, 52, of Wendell, N.C., was charged with reckless driving – failure to maintain control.

Speed is considered a factor in the on-going crash investigation.  For further traffic information, go to www.511virginia.org.
