U.S. flags made in China now banned in the military

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. (WTVR/CBS News) – For years, soldiers have been carrying U.S. flags into battle and flying them over foreign bases.  Now those flags are banned because they were made in China.

CBS San Francisco reports that Congressman Mike Thompson wrote a bill requiring that flags used by the military should be 100 percent “Made in America.”

The legislation proposed by Thompson has been signed into law.

Although the military flag rule passed, similar bills requiring the government using American made flags have failed.  The reason is that Chinese-made flags cost less than ones made here in America.
