“The Naval Academy is deeply saddened by the tragic death of Midshipman Max Allen,” Naval Academy Superintendent Vice Adm. Michael Miller said in a statement. “It is painful to lose a member of our Naval Academy family, and as we attempt to better understand this tremendous loss, we offer our deepest condolences to Max’s family, close friends, classmates and company mates during this extremely difficult time.”

Allen’s body was recovered in College Creek Sunday evening after his white SUV was discovered near the Nimitz library, according to the Navy.

“The vehicle was recovered Monday morning and is being examined by NCIS and Naval Support Activity Annapolis Police as part of the ongoing investigation into the cause and time of the accident,” the Navy said in a press release.

Midshipman Allen attended Virginia Tech for two years before being inducted into the Naval Academy. He attended high school in Pennsylvania.

Allen was scheduled to graduate from the Naval Academy in May.
